Smiling Tadpole

            There’s a species of tadpole that reaches 3 – 6 inches and takes multiple years to transform into a frog.  But what’s truly amazing is some of them have human facial features. I researched this and found other people were observing the same phenomenon. 

I took three frames of this 4 inch tadpole at close range and all revealed the same expression.  During one shot a cloud passed over the sun, completely changing the light, but the face remained identical. I’m not suggesting these features are all functional but they do make for a surreal appearance.

The facial “personalities” vary widely. I recently observed one with a sad mouth.  They’re like aquatic emoticons.
