YR-ABC Tarom Boeing 707-3K1C taxies to the stand at Amsterdam Schiphol

From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.

TAROM was unique in the fact that it was the only European airline that operated both Western and Soviet aircraft in their fleet. The airline operated Boeing 707s and BAC 1-11s alongside Ilyushin Il-62s and Tupolev 154s.

In this shot we see YR-ABC taxiing in to the stand after landing at Amsterdam Schiphol. I had a soft spot for Tarom due to the fact that they operated such a varied fleet of aircraft :)
In the distance is a Fairchild FH-227 of Delta Air Transport (DAT).

YR-ABC c/n 20805 - Boeing 707-3K1C was one of three aircraft delivered new to Tarom (Romania) in 1974, the others being YR-ABA & YR-ABB. These were joined in 1975/76 by two ex-Pan Am aircraft YR-ABM (N450PA) & YR-ABN (N475PA). The 707s remained in the Tarom fleet until the early 1990s. YR-ABC flew with Tarom for 20 years before being leased out in the 1990s to Air Afrique, JARO International, EAS Airlines, and then Amako Airlines as 5N-KMA in 2002. In 2003 it went to Johnsons Air (Ghana) as 9G-IRL, ending up with Meridian Airways. The aircraft was sadly written off when it crashed into Lake Entebbe in rain on its second attempt to land which was to low on 19th March 2005. The aircraft was en-route on a cargo flight from Addis Ababa to Lome, Togo.
