YR-ABA Tarom Boeing 707-3K1C taxies for take off at London Gatwick

The Boeing Collection
From a collection of some 500 Boeing slides that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.

TAROM was unique in the fact that it was the only European airline that operated both Western and Soviet aircraft in their fleet. The airline operated Boeing 707s and BAC 1-11s alongside Ilyushin Il-62s and Tupolev 154s.

In this shot we see YR-ABA taxiing for a 26 departure at London Gatwick. Flight number was RO756. In the distance is Laker DC-10 G-AZZD.

YR-ABA c/n 20803 - Boeing 707-3K1C was one of three aircraft delivered new to Tarom (Romania) in 1974, the others being YR-ABB & YR-ABC. These were joined in 1975/76 by two ex-Pan Am aircraft YR-ABM (N450PA) & YR-ABN (N475PA). The 707s remained in the Tarom fleet until the early 1990s. YR-ABA c/n 20805 - Boeing 707-3K1C flew with Tarom for 15 years before being leased out in the 1990s to Air Algérie and Air Afrique, before being sold to Key Aviation (Brokers) in 2004. Next identity was S2-ADU with South East Asia Airlines, and finally TT-DAX (Tchad) with Mid Express - ending up stored (and presumably scrapped) at Hassan Djamous International airport, N'Djamena, Tchad.

Taken with a Soviet made Zenith E camera and 300mm lens. From an original slide, scanned with minimal digital restoration.
