All British! G-BHVH Orion Airways Boeing 737-2T5 taxies to the stand at London Gatwick with BCal and BIA BAC 1-11s in the background

Gatwick in the 80s - a view from the Roof Terrace of Orion Airways Boeing 737-2T5 G-BHVH on its way to the stand at London Gatwick. Quite an attractive and fairly short-lived colour scheme.

G-BHVH c/n 22396 - Boeing 737-2T5 was delivered new to Orion Airways in Feb 1981, adding to the original fleet of four aircraft delivered to the new airline the previous year. The airline was fairly short-lived though, and in 1988 was swallowed up by Britannia Airways. The Boeing 737-200s were replaced by brand new Boeing 737-300s in 1985, and G-BHVH was sold to ILFC and immediately leased to Vacationair as C-GVRE. After leases to Gulf Air as A40-BM in 1990, and East-West Airlines as VT-EWF in 1992, the aircraft went to Mandala Airlines as EI-CON, later PK-RIW in 1997, and then back as EI-CON with Ryanair. After seven years with Ryanair, the aircraft was off again, this time to Autodirect Aviation Llc Orlando FL as N396AD. Then sold to Adamair as PK-KKQ in 2005. Back to Wells Fargo as N223SG and then off to Africa as ZS-SGX with Air Botswana. Final identity was a lease to Africa Charter Airline in 2008, but the aircraft was damaged in a taxying accident at AFB Hoedspruit South Africa on 1st November 2011. Sold to Outsourcing For Africa and scrapped - quite the varied flying career!
