Traverser l'Omo / To cross the Omo River

            Pour se rendre dans les villages de l'ethnie Dassanech  situés très près de la frontière keyniane, il est nécessaire de franchir la mythique rivière Omo. Jusqu' à un passé récent, la seule façon de le faire était d'emprunter ces pirogues monotronc très instables . Aujourd'hui un pont relie les deux rives du fleuve mais sans doute les passeurs ont-ils réussi à convaincre certains chauffeurs de touristes de continuer à utiliser les pirogues (il faut bien continuer à vivre malgré la concurrence du pont) car, lors de notre récent passage, on nous a amené directement à l'"embarcadère" des pirogues sans nous demander notre avis. Il est vrai que les petites frayeurs suscitées par l'utilisation de ce moyen traditionnel, tant à l'embarquement qu'à l'arrivée procureront  davantage de souvenirs qu'un passage de pont. 

To get to the villages of the Dassanech ethnic group located very close to the Keynian border, it is necessary to cross the mythical Omo River. Until recently, the only way to do this was to take these very unstable single-trunk canoes. Today a bridge connects the two banks of the river but undoubtedly the smugglers have succeeded in convincing certain tourist drivers to continue using the canoes (They must continue to live despite the competition from the bridge) because, during our recent passage, we were taken directly to the “pier” of the canoes without asking our opinion. It is true that the little scares caused by the use of this traditional means, both on boarding and on arrival, will provide more memories than crossing a bridge.
