Leicester Midland March 2008/GCR 10th October 2010

            A brief video interlude with British Railways Standard 8P pacific 71000 Duke of Gloucester.

a) Leicester Midland station plays host to 71000 on a main line Steam Special; "The Cheshireman" to Chester, on 1st March 2008. The train had originated in London & arrived from the north behind EWS Class 67 diesel 67001 after running via Melton Mowbray & the special departed northwards again.

b) In October 2010 71000 visited the Great Central Railway for the Autumn Gala and on the 10th I had the privilege of firing her. We had a morning turn but the Duke's support crew had prepared the loco for us making it a fairly easy turn. The climb out of Rothley is seen from the fireman's cab window.
