Bramwith Doncaster South Yorkshire 29th August 1976

            Of typical Great Northern design  Bramwith signal box, located northeast of Doncaster, controlled the level crossing where Bramwith Lane from Barnby Dun to Kirk Bramwith passed over the West Riding & Grimsby line (the Skellow lines) from Stainforth.

There was a goods station here - it never dealt with passengers - but by this time it was no longer operational.

The West Riding & Grimsby Railway was a joint line owned by the Great Central Railway & Great Northern Railway. This line connected the former at Stainforth Junction with the North Eastern Railway at  Applehurst/Joan Croft Junctions & continued westwards to Skellow junction where it  joined the main GWRR Doncaster to Leeds line at Adwick-le-Street.

The line itself is still open for freight but, need I say it, this beautiful box with its traditional wooden gates, red oil lamp and telegraph poles has long gone.
