Lewis Reeves Sams House - Beaufort South Carolina

This Beaufort style home was built by Lewis Reeves Sams who at one point owned half of Dataw Island.  During Union occupation the house was used as Hospital #14.  Rev. Thomas Fuller Sams was able to reacquire the house after the war.  It survived the great fire of 1907 by the efforts of the Waterhouse cotton gin workers.
The home was used in the movie “The Prince of Tides”.
Southerners paint their porch ceilings blue because it is a long standing tradition. Ceilings were painted blue to repel haints. A haint is a restless soul that has not moved on from the physical world.
This house is for sale as of 2017.
