            In Leu Gardens, Orlando, FL. Taken with an A. Schacht Ulm Travegar R 100mm f/3.3 Cooke triplet in M42 mount, at f/5.6.

Monarchs were once extremely common in North America, but in the past twenty years they have declined rapidly as a result of the use of agricultural herbicides, which kill the milkweed plants on which their caterpillars live, and the destructive logging of the oyamel fir forests in Mexico where the butterflies overwinter. The amazing annual migration of these butterflies from as far south as Michoacán, Mexico, to as far north as southern Canada, and return the following fall, may someday come to an end.
