Gritty - a photo on Flickriver

Gritty

A superb afternoon out that has been a long time coming due to having a broken wrist and surgery I've not been able to do much, including drive. Mike Tonge offered to pick me up and go for a walk up onto Derwent Edge for sunset, which I was more than happy to do getting outdoors again. We also met up with Ade McCabe up on the edge and all headed to the Salt Cellar for sunset.

We did get rewarded with some brilliant light during and after sunset making the already worthwhile trip even more rewarding from a photography point of view and I've come away with I think 3 shots that I'm happy with.

This was one of the very last I took and definitely my favourite I think with the vivid sky matching the angle of the 'lead in' rock and the curiously shaped gritstone 'Salt Cellar' just nestled in the August Heather between them both.

The walk back to the car was in the dark for the last part and although I was taking care where I was walking I managed to go flying over not far before reaching the car, thankfully my wrist didn't take any of the fall but my tripod ended up under my ribs as I crashed down on top of it, amazingly I don't think I have broken them but they are still sore a few weeks afterwards, not safe to be let out sometimes!
