"Trumpeter Swan - Twisty Neck 4" by Patti Deters. A single Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) twists her neck as she tries to either itch or preen the side of her neck, all while standing on an icy shoreline. These beautiful great white water birds have large webbed feet that aid them with walking on winter ice, and the black coloring is thought to absorb sun and heat, helping to keep warm. Her lovely white feathers glow in the winter light and the deep blue water is a perfect backdrop. This is #4 in a series of four photos of this beautiful bird.
