Purple Eye - a photo on Flickriver

Purple Eye

            Southern lapwing (Vanellus chilensis) on the shore of Colonia del Sacramento (Uruguay). This is the first bird I had met when visiting Uruguay. The Téro, as called in the region, is everywhere, and if you don't see it you may however ear his strong call. I spent two hours with this one taking pictures of the nice feathers and interesting feed behavior. Eventually it came very cloth by with the sun coming down allowing some nice close-up.
