Withdrawn Class 55 Deltic 55016 ex-'Gordon Highlander' alongside 55015 ex-'Tulyar' seen languishing at Doncaster Works

Sun. 5th June 1983 1Zxx - 'The North Midlander' railtour Another great railtour - this one managed to include scheduled stops at Doncaster Works and Toton TMD open days :)

55016 - once mighty Deltic 'Gordon Highlander' languishes in the scrap sidings at Doncaster Works - coupled up to sister loco 55015 'Tulyar' complete with the distinctive Finsbury Park white windows. Fortunately, things aren't quite as bad as they seem, as both of these fine locos were saved for preservation :)

Locomotive History - D9016 / 55016 'Gordon Highlander' - English Electric No. 2921. Vulcan Foundry No. D573. Date into service: 27th Oct 1961. Original Allocation: Haymarket, Edinburgh (64B/HA).
Named: 28th July 1964 at Aberdeen with ceremony.

Allocation history: 64B 27.10.61. 34G 12/67. 64B 6/68. HA 5/73. ZF (S) 1/79-26.09.79. YK 5/79.

Date Withdrawn: 30th Dec 1981. Preserved by the D9000 Fund, later Deltic 9000 Locomotives Ltd, currently owned by Martin Walker.
