The Fern Pass at 1212 m is a mountain pass in the Tyrolean Alps in Austria. It is located between the Lechtal Alps on the west and the Mieming Mountains on the east. The Pass formed about 4100 years ago by a huge landslide, which filled up the valleys between the mountains. The highest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze is only 13.5 km away to the northeast. The emerald Mittersee lake enjoys a favored central location at the foot of the sunny side of the Fern Pass. The largest lake along the Fernpass is the Blindsee lake and is located below the Fern Pass, 1093m above sea level and 25m deep. The landscape is marked by a series of lakes, the largest of which is the Blindsee. Most of these are believed to have been created by the mountain slide. The clear waters is particularly suitable for diving. Today's road is known as the Fernpass Straße B179. It connects Reutte through the Lermoos tunnel with Tarrenz and Imst. Via B187 and B189, it also leads to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany. It also connects the Lech River valley with the Inn River valley. Therefore, it carries more traffic than almost any other pass in the eastern Alps, except the Brenner Pass. The highest grade is 8 percent. Nature lovers feel instantly at home here. After all this place in the middle of the mountains provides something for everyone. Hiking, biking, diving, swimming and climbing. Surrounded by green forests as well as crystal clear mountain air and located far away from hustle and bustle, The Blindsee lake is a perfect place for those who seek relaxation. The surrounding mountains offer numerous hiking trails and possibilities for mountaineering.

You go here from the main road by bike in less than 5 minutes and if you prefer to hike you will reach it by foot in about 20 minutes or so. In the summer the beautiful alp lake will invite you for a swim. The nearest town is Biberwier three kilometers north-east.

De Fernpas is een 1212 m hoge bergpas in de Oostenrijkse deelstaat Tirol. De pas vormt een snelle verbinding tussen Imst in het Inndal en Reutte in het noorden van Tirol. Ook is via deze pas Garmisch-Partenkirchen snel bereikbaar vanuit het westen van het Oberinntal. De Fernpas is gelegen tussen de Lechtaler Alpen in het westen en het Mieminger gebergte in het oosten. De Zugspitze bevindt zich 13,5 km. ten noordoosten van de pas. De pas ontstond ongeveer 4100 jaar geleden door een grote aardverschuiving, die de dalen tussen de bergen opvulde. De Fernpas is al vele eeuwen bekend als bergpas. Over de Fernpas liep in de Romeinse tijd de Via Claudia Augusta, die de belangrijkste route tussen Germania en het noorden van Italië vormde. De Fernpas voert over deze bergstorting, langs een aantal meren. Het smaragdgroene Mittermeer ligt op een bevoorrechte centrale locatie aan de voet van de zonnige zijde van de Fernpas. Het Blindmeer is het grootste meer langs de Fernpas. Het bergmeer bevindt zich onder de Fernpas op 1093m boven de zeespiegel en is zo'n 25m diep. Het smaragdgroene meer ligt verscholen tussen bomen en is slechts te bereiken via één smal weggetje. Een heel mooie wandeling om in de lente, zomer of herfst te doen is zonder twijfel de wandeling van Biberwier naar de Blindsee. Vanuit Biberwier vetrek je richting Loisachquellen richting het voetbalplein van Biberwier. Vanaf hier staat de wandeling goed aangegeven. Onderweg kom je verschillende mooie plekjes tegen en uiteindelijk, na een korte klim, bereik je de Blindsee. Dit bergmeer kleurt prachtig turquoise als de zon schijnt, een wonder van moeder natuur.
