De meeste auto’s die rond de Eerste Wereldoorlog zijn geproduceerd, verschilden niet veel van elkaar. Een opvallende uitzondering is het experimentele prototype dat tussen 1911 en 1915 is gebouwd door H.E. Hall in het Engelse Tunbridge Wells. Volgens Hall verschilden automobielen rond die tijd in weinig andere zaken van elkaar dan hun prijs en simpele details, welke hij maar onnodig vond. Aangedreven door een, voor die tijd zeer zeldzame 8 cilinder boxermotor, was Hall’s product uitermate onderscheidend.
Hall gebruikte verschillende bestaande auto-onderdelen om zijn auto te bouwen. Een voorbeeld was het chassis van een oude Arrol-Aster, de versnellingsbak en voor- en achteras van een Studebaker Six uit 1912 en de cilinders van een Bayard. Zijn bouwstijl laat zich omschrijven door een simpel voorbeeld: het oliefilter van zijn creatie was op vernuftige wijze gemaakt van de wieldoppen die origineel op een Studebaker zaten. Hall improviseerde en leende, en het resultaat was een perfect werkende auto die hij tot ‘HALL’ doopte. Toen de automobiel, 4 jaar na afronding, de aandacht van de pers ving, had Hall er al zo’n 6000 kilometer mee gereden. Gedurende die tijd, heeft hij zijn ontwerp op verschillende vlakken verbeterd.
Tijdens een interview met The Autocar in 1919, gaf Hall aan dat de auto “naar grote tevredenheid en geheel probleemloos” reed. Verder noemde hij het verbruik van 1 liter op de 8,5 kilometer, wanneer de tank gevuld was met benzine en de auto reed op Waymaster banden (875 x 105). In tegenstelling tot andere automobielen op de markt, vibreerde de HALL nauwelijks bij hogere snelheden. Dit is te danken aan de opmerkelijke motor, waarvan de zuigers zich achtereenvolgend bewegen, in plaats van in paren. Verder wordt de kracht overgebracht door een korte krukas en zijn de kleppen aan de zijkanten van de cilinders geplaatst.
Toen Hall zijn auto voor het eerst liet registreren, in 1914 of 1915, ontving hij de nummerplaat KN1. Omdat de Eerste Wereld Oorlog in alle hevigheid woedde werd de auto ter bescherming verborgen. Nadien is de auto in diverse artikelen besproken: in The Autocar (22 februari, 1919), in Car (1969), en in Motorsport (Mei 1977). Door de jaren heen verslechterde de staat van de auto. Gelukkig vond de auto een nieuwe enthousiaste eigenaar die de auto geheel in originele staat herstelde. Nu staat de Hall in het museum van Classic Park te pronken.

Deze Hall is het enige bekende exemplaar van vermoedelijk slechts twee geproduceerde auto's.

[English] Most cars built during the Great War did not differ much from the other ones built before. One that is a noteworthy exception of this statement is the experimental prototype built by H.E. Hall between 1911 and 1915 in Tunbridge Wells, England.
According to Hall, other cars of that period only showed differences in price and minor details, most of which Hall found unnecessary. His automobile however, distinct itself mostly through the fact that it was powered by an 8 cylinder boxer engine, a type that was extremely rare in cars, especially at that time.
Hall used various existing parts to construct his vehicle. For example, he used the chassis of an old Arrol-Aster, the gearbox and front and rear axles of a 1912 Studebaker Six and the cylinders of a Bayard. His style of building is best displayed by the fact that the oil filter was neatly made out of a Studebaker's hubcap: Hall improvised and borrowed, but the result was a car working perfectly. When the car was finished he named the model 'HALL'. It first gained the attention of the press four years after it was finished. Hall had by then driven it for 4000 miles already. During that time, he improved the automobile. In a 1919 interview with The Autocar, he stated that he'd ran the car with "the greatest satisfaction and an entire absence of trouble". Also, he mentioned it can do 20 miles to the gallon on petrol and "plain" tyres: 875 x 105 Waymasters.
As opposed to other vehicles on the market, HALL barely vibrates when at speed, due to its remarkable engine. The cylinders fire consecutively, not in pairs. Furthermore, the power is transmitted through a short crank shaft and the valves of the engine were located on the sides of the cylinders.
When Hall's car was first registered in 1914 or 1915, it received the license number KN1. Since the Great War started around that time, the vehicle was hidden to protect it. Afterwards, it has been discussed in articles several times: in The Autocar (February 22nd, 1919), in Car (1969) and in Motorsport (May 1977). During the years, the state it was in started to decline. Luckily it was restored back to its original state, and the car is now to be admired at Classic Park.

This Hall is the only one known. There were probably two Halls built.
