Onagre (Oenothera biennis) - a photo on Flickriver

            L’onagre est une annuelle ou bisannuelle, rustique (-30°C), qui peut se trouver naturellement au bord de chemins près des côtes Atlantique et méditerranéenne mais aussi sur les talus des voies ferrées. Ses tiges dressées sont garnies de grandes rosettes de feuilles duveteuses veinées de rouge, mesurant entre 10 et 30 cm de long, de forme oblongue, lancéolées, dentées, un peu collantes.
Durant tout l’été, des fleurs jaunes en coupe, de 3 à 5 cm de diamètre, apparaissent en grappes le long d’épis : elles comptent 4 sépales, 4 pétales et 4 stigmates formant le pistil ; elles s’épanouissent le soir et exhalent un parfum suave très agréable, jusqu'à midi. D’ailleurs, on appelle également l’onagre "primevère du soir" ou "belle de nuit".
