Een weetje
Een mens kan allergisch zijn voor de inname van lupine. Lupine is net zoals de pinda lid van de vlinderbloemenfamilie. Vaak hebben mensen met een lupineallergie ook antistoffen tegen pinda's in hun bloed. Een lupinereactie kan ook op zich voorkomen, zonder pinda-allergie, maar uitsluiting is zeer belangrijk daar de voedselindustrie sinds de jaren negentig steeds vaker lupinemeel verwerkt in voedingsmiddelen zoals pasta's, koekjes, pannenkoekenmeel en snacks. Onnodig lupine vermijden zou een zeer grote beperking op het voedselaanbod betekenen. Lupinemeel wordt gezien als een goede vervanger van genetisch gemanipuleerde soja. Sinds december 2008 zijn de fabrikanten verplicht te melden dat er eventueel lupine in hun product aanwezig is.

A human can be allergic to lupine intake. Lupine is like the peanut member of the butterfly flower family. Often people with lupine allergy also have antibodies to peanuts in their blood. A lupine reaction can also occur in itself without peanut allergy but exclusion is very important since the food industry has increasingly been processing lupine meal in foods such as pasta, biscuits, pancake flour and snacks since the nineties. Avoiding unnecessary lupine would mean a very big restriction on food supply. Lupine meal is seen as a good replacement for genetically engineered soy. Since December 2008, manufacturers are required to report that there may be lupine in their product.
