Two of the most wonderful views for Garden of the Gods are from the east at Visitor Center Viewpoint, and here at Cathedral Valley as seen from the northwest along Juniper Way Loop. The uplift of these massive rock formations becomes amazingly clear from this area. They were formed by ancient sand dunes lying relatively flat millions of years ago...Now they stand 90˚ from the surface, an eye-catching example of geologic uplift.

Formations seen here from the left: North Gateway Rock is on the extreme left edge of the shot, then South Gateway Rock, with Kindergarten (AKA Gray Rock) in the middle of the frame. The smaller spire-like formation in front of Kindergarten Rock is Pulpit Rock with The Three Graces, and finally the larger Sleeping Giant is to the right.

To get an idea of how massive these formations are, you would not be able to easily spot a human standing at the top of one of them from here. Aperture priority, tripod, Lee ND and CPL filters, Capture One Pro post-processing.
