The footings of the Belah Viaduct - a photo on Flickriver

            Built in 1860 and demolished in 1963 the Belah Viaduct was the highest bridge in Britain at 60m.  It provided a trans Pennines rail route between Barnard Castle and Tebay. These footings an old signal box the odd hut and the track bed are all that remains.
 The walk from here to Stainmore Summit is not a public right of way but it does give wonderful views over the Eden Valley.
