Spring Trees and Dandelions, Morses Line, Vermont

            I was going to enter the US by a small border crossing at Morses Line. To enter, you first drive through an electronic gate, and drive about another 300 meters to get to the guard station. As I passed through the gate I noticed the trees above. There was a place to park, so I stopped to take a photo. No other cars were passing through here. From my original vantage, the second tree was behind the first, so I did the logical thing and moved to a better position. As I did, my camera started to slip on the ball joint, so as I walked I was adjusting the ball joint. I took the photo and then heard someone calling me. I picked up my camera and walked toward them. It was a Canadian border guard who asked "Do you know what you just did?" I answered, "I took a photo of those trees." He responded, "and you also entered the US illegally." Oops. I had not noticed the marker as I had walked about 20 feet up the street. He said "The US guards want to talk to you." As I drove up the road to their station I assumed I might be turned around, but when I explained, and after they looked at the photos to see that I wasn't recording anything I should not be (I don't know what that would be), they were very friendly and passed us through. I offered to leave my friend with them as a gesture of good faith, but the guard said that there would be too much paperwork involved.
