Where’s my fish???

Failing to catch a fish after several dives, a male Pied Kingfisher flies past me at high speed wearing a mischievous grin, perhaps indicating he expects better luck next time.

In fact, this particular male Pied Kingfisher had grown accustomed to seeing me standing at the river’s edge over the past winter, making possible some rather (fast) close encounters of the avian kind.
