Shawnee Schoolhouse - a photo on Flickriver

Shawnee, Wyoming

Not sure if this is a one-room school, or perhaps a two-room. All the windows are boarded up and, in any case, it's surrounded by barbed wire. Of course, I don't always let barbed wire deter me, but since it was boarded up, and I assumed the door was locked, I couldn't see any point in getting over the fence. I do draw the line at breaking in. Since I do sometimes ignore "No Trespassing" signs and fences clearly designed to keep people out, some would see my actions as reckless or even criminal. Technically, they would be correct, I guess. But I do have a strict code of conduct while investigating these old, abandoned buildings. I may not heed the signs telling me to stay away, but I nonetheless respect the property. I will not, under any circumstances, damage anything, nor will I take anything. I've been tempted to take something that clearly has long been forgotten, but never have. If there is a no trespassing sign, I will try to gain permission from the owners if I can make out who that is without having to visit the county courthouse (i.e., if there is an occupied home nearby). Usually, however, as in this case, there was no one around to ask. In those cases, if trespassing is "necessary" for the shot, I go ahead and hope the owners forgive me if I'm discovered after they hear my story. So far, everyone who has discovered my impertinence, has given their "forgiveness," though initially they might be quite angry. My honesty and lack of defensiveness has always won the day. Here's hoping that streak continues. :-)

The town of Shawnee was never much of a town and looks never to have been incorporated. There was a long-abandoned cafe nearby and very little else. Wikipedia has no info on population, so it must virtually be zero.
