A Pérola do Bolhão, Porto (Oporto), Portugal

            A Pérola do Bolhão (open since 1917), located on Rua Formosa 279,  is a traditional grocery store, by now a famous landmark for photographers and shoppers alike,  just across from Mercado do Bolhão, downtown Porto. This grocery stores a large variety of quality products, from mountain cheese to dried fruits, from good wine to delicatessen and Portuguese traditional cookies. The façade is a beautiful Art Noveau covered in Portuguese tiles. The images on the facade are of women holding tea plants and coffee plants, as the writing suggest Tea (“Chá”) and Coffee (“Café”).

Located on a very busy street with hectic traffic and shoppers flying all over the place, it is very difficult if not impossible to take a photo of the entire facade but patience pays off.
