            Die Dickkopffliege, auch bekannt als "Conopidae", ist eine Familie von Fliegen, die in vielen Teilen der Welt vorkommt. Sie zeichnet sich durch ihren auffällig großen Kopf im Verhältnis zum restlichen Körper aus, was ihr den Namen "Dickkopffliege" eingebracht hat.
Dickkopffliegen sind parasitäre Insekten, die sich von anderen Insekten ernähren. Die Weibchen legen ihre Eier auf oder in der Nähe von anderen Insekten ab, wie zum Beispiel Bienen oder Wespen. Die Larven schlüpfen dann aus den Eiern und dringen in den Wirt ein, wo sie sich von dessen Körperflüssigkeiten ernähren.
Obwohl Dickkopffliegen für ihre parasitäre Lebensweise bekannt sind, spielen sie auch eine wichtige Rolle in der Bestäubung von Pflanzen. Während sie Nektar saugen, können sie unbeabsichtigt Pollen von einer Blume zur anderen übertragen und so zur Bestäubung beitragen.

The fathead fly, also known as "Conopidae", is a family of flies found in many parts of the world. It is characterised by its conspicuously large head in relation to the rest of its body, which has earned it the name "fathead fly".
Chub flies are parasitic insects that feed on other insects. The females lay their eggs on or near other insects, such as bees or wasps. The larvae then hatch from the eggs and invade the host, where they feed on the host's body fluids.
Although chub flies are known for their parasitic lifestyle, they also play an important role in pollinating plants. While sucking nectar, they can inadvertently transfer pollen from one flower to another and thus contribute to pollination.
