Laredo - a photo on Flickriver

Laredo

            Laredo es una de las "cuatro villas marineras" junto con San Vicente, Castro Urdiales y Santander. Aparece en las cantigas de Alfonso X el Sabio y también la menciona Don Quijote al describir su linaje.
Fue puerto real para la unión con Europa. Enclavada entre la ría de Treto y la bahía de Santoña, es una de las principales
localidades turísticas no ya de la costa de Cantabria, sino de todo el litoral español.
La villa se extiende en tres sectores bien diferenciados: La Puebla Vieja y el Arrabal, la zona del Ensanche, y la prolongación de éste hasta el Puntal. 
Pero el verdadero patrimonio de Laredo reside en su excepcional naturaleza: de un lado, la playa del Regatón, que se despliega en el área interna de la ría de Treto; en el otro, el fantástico conjunto de playa y dunas que forma la denominada "Salvé", frente al mar Cantábrico, y que tiene el distintivo de "Q" de calidad.
