Beauté cachée

            Jeune femme à Juna, petit village rabari à proxilité de Ranakpur, état du Rajasthan, Inde

La jeune femme est la fille d'un berger rabari qui nous avait invité dans son petit village. Hormis le service du thé, les femmes restaient à l'écart de notre petit groupe, mais à visages découverts La jeune-femme s'est couverte pour aller puiser l'eau à la fontaine du village.

Les Rabari, particulièrement nombreux  dans toute la région de Ranakpur  sont également appelés Rewari ou Desai, ou Raika. Ils constituent une caste de  nomades hindouistes, éleveurs de chameaux, de moutons, de chèvres ou de bovins, qui vivent dans la partie nord-ouest de l’Inde, principalement dans les États du Gujarat, Punjab et Rajasthan.
Aujourd’hui, à vrai dire, seul un faible pourcentage des Rabari est encore véritablement nomade. La majorité d'entre eux est installée à la périphérie des villes et villages; après la saison des pluies ils pratiquent une vie nomade sur  de longues périodes de temps, mais retournent ensuite  dans leurs villages
L'origine exacte du peuple Rabari est inconnue. Il est  probable qu'ils aient émigré d'Iran en Inde via le Baloutchistan il y a environ mille ans,
