I would like every word that I utter, every gesture I make, every look I take, to be devoid of all futility. Reduced to the important and necessary. That nothing leads me to repair, redo, hasten. In doing so, I will not do anything. I would let myself float on a wave, then another, the same, yet different, then a hurricane. With my essential scope, jostled, transported, in the flow of time and things I would have my perfect utility, my exact place.

Instead, I learned to speak, I learned to look at my body as something other than a body. My language has detached me from the quiet stream of things that go without difficulty, without wanting, without desire. I invented words, and those words meant nothing more than the sound of words. I have attached meanings to protect myself from the absurd: words to say numbers, numbers to count stars, count cattle, to count wealth, then to make contracts, to write laws, then to explain love, to justify crimes, and to count weapons, bullets, dead enemies and passed away heroes.

Words have divided the world between winners and losers, between good and evil, between myself and others. I made the words to tell stories, to invent money, to spend it to the point of making the whole earth bankrupt. I lost myself in trying not to lose myself. I forgot how to use my brain and my body, and didn’t think about it. I invented all these stories, then I mutilated my body by tattooing them on my skin, then, I tore off my skin, I tanned it and I made my pillow book, for fear of forgetting. We all forgot that there had been earlier thought.
