Lóndrangar - a photo on Flickriver

Lóndrangar

Lóndrangar on the far West end of the Snæfellsnes peninsula has a quite remarkable coastline with gnarled sea stacks, basalt rocks, and other volcanic features making it very 'other worldy' in places, and all pounded by the fierce sea which has helped to shape this curious and wild landscape.

This location was a first for me and I was really excited to shoot it it, however the inclement weather had other ideas... the light was superb at sunset but it just would not stop raining, intermingled with fierce gusts of wind which just filled the lens with water every few seconds, there was nothing for it but to just set up, weight down the camera on the tripod with my bag, cover the camera over and just stand there getting soaked hoping for a break in the rain so I could get to work.

I remember standing there looking at the scene thinking if I get nothing here I'll be inconsoleable, as it was that good but just impossible to shoot!!

Thankfully!!! after about 20 minutes it stopped and I could set about shooting the scene, the sun had almost dropped onto the horizon but was still visible, creating some great light onto the rocky shore, I think there was about 10 minutes of no rain, more than enough to get various shots before the sun vanished, and once again the rain came back. I'd hadn't been that frantic on a shoot for a long time, after all it's not a location that you can just pop back to easily...
