Cryptocheilus (?) sp. with prey - a photo on Flickriver

            this one just landed on the path we were walking on one late afternoon - it had to pause probably due to the heavy spider prey; it retracted for a few minutes leaving the spider just in front of us which gave me lots of time to set up camera and tripod!

Neben Spinnen sind auch mehrere Insektengruppen für mich von speziellem Interesse. Eine davon sind die Wegwespen (Pompilidae), nicht zuletzt wegen ihrer hochinteressanten Interaktion mit den Spinnen.
Weltweit gibt es aktuell ca. 5000 Arten, die sich überwiegend in den Tropen und wärmeren Regionen der Erde aufhalten. Für Europa sind aktuell ca. 280 Arten beschrieben.
Grundsätzlich gibt es basierend auf dem Brutverhalten drei Gruppen von Wegwespen: 
- Arten die ein Ei auf eine vorübergehend gelähmte Spinne ablegen. Die Spinne lebt danach normal weiter.
- Arten die ein Ei auf dauerhaft gelähmte Spinnen ablegen und die parasitierten Spinnen in Nestern verstecken.
- Arten die als sogenannte Kleptoparasiten, die Brutspinnen anderer Wegwespen parasitieren.
Die meisten Wegwespen sind weniger auf einzelne Spinnenarten spezialisiert, als oft auf Spinnen mit ähnlicher Lebensweise. Es gibt aber auch Wegwespen-Gattungen mit einem recht breiten Brutarten-Spektrum. So z.B. findet man bei Cryptocheilus Brut-Spinnen aus den Familien Agelenidae, Amaurobiidae, Araneidae, Dysderidae, Gnaphosidae, Heteropodidae, Lycosidae, Miturgidae, Pisauridae, Salticidae und Thomisidae. Auf dem Photo hat die Cryptocheilus Wegwespe eine Wolfsspinne (Lycosidae) erbeutet.
