c/n 16965 - built as a  C-47B-45-DK in 1945 for the USAF -
to the SAAF in 1981 -
converted to turboprop DC-3 -
Impounded Beira/Mozambique for reportedly for alleged cigarette smuggling, and was stored (hangared) there during a prolonged dispute. Now reported as being derelict.  

Aero Mod International (AMI) of Fort Worth, Texas, developed a turboprop conversion for the DC-3 which involved replacing the aircraft's piston engines with two 1,230 shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65AR turboprops. The conversion also included a 3 ft 4 in (1.02 m) fuselage 'stretch' forward of the wing root to maintain the aircraft's center of gravity envelope. The hydraulic system is also modified and fuel capacity increased. The program was different from the Basler BT-67 conversion
