Unscheduled Stop

I had no intention to stop here this trip (in which I am still engaged). The Grand Canyon is my favorite place in all the world, but I was headed for sights as yet unseen (Capitol Reef National Park for one). Yet, I found myself unable to resist this Grandest of all sights when the turnoff (AZ Highway 64) presented itself. I knew I would arrive well before sunset and so had every expectation of some good light. And I was correct. I ended up arriving only about an hour before losing the light, as I made yet another unscheduled stop at the Little Colorado River Gorge along the way (you can actually glimpse it in the distance at right, and where it joins the canyon, upper center)). This certainly isn't the best vantage point from which to take a photo as the mound directly before me blocks some of the view. Still gobsmacking beautiful.

I met a couple who both sported Nikons (one an 850 and the other a Z model) and we chatted almost non-stop as we shot away--mostly about photography--a conversation that was most enjoyable.

I also took photos a little further west of this spot with the famous (or infamous, it has its detractors) Desert View Tower in the frame which I will undoubtedly upload later.

This is a Pano combining 9 shots taken with my Nikon 810.  I believe it's the largest image I've yet to upload on Flickr at 109 MB. I many quickly break that record, however, as the image with the tower combined 16 shots.
