Fuente del Francés - Hoznayo - Cantabria

            Quién diría que este paisaje está a escasos cien metros de la autovía del Cantábrico, cerquita de Solares. Parece increíble. Es la fuente del Francés, situada en la carretera que une Hoznayo con Villaverde de Pontones, un camino que también es una joya porque es de los pocos que todavía está flanqueado por grandes plátanos en las cunetas. Bueno a lo que íbamos. La fuente del Francés es una zona de manantiales llamada así en honor de un abate que huyó de la Revolución Francesa y descubrió las propiedades curativas de este agua. A finales de la década de 1870 Geraro Cagigal creó un balneario que tuvo mucho éxito hasta finales de siglo. Estuvo un tiempo abandonado hasta que lo reflotó el doctor Morales, que explotó sus aguas para la venta en farmacias. El ‘Agua de Hoznayo’ cogió fama y en muchas casas cántabras era el agua de botella de mayor consumo. En 1980 se cerraron todas las instalaciones de embotellado. Ahora nos queda este paraje con algunas de sus instalaciones medio derruidas. El encanto de lo trasnochado. Y el misterio que te deja ver transcurrir el agua del río Aguanaz por la gruta del Diablo.
