The Monster Walks

            He squeaks and stalks
Woodland creatures he mocks
Tell him to stop and 
he just loudly balks

Each night he thunders
In the morning he heaves
and he can’t stop his blunders
as he wrestles the leaves. 

When the monster awakens
The whole forest starts shaking
No one knows his name
But he carries weight all the same

His destruction you’ll abhor
But he’s impossible to ignore 
Each thud and crunch is jarring 
But there’s no use sparring 

Hard skin with bubbles
Persistent troubles
You’ll see him near 
And tremble with fear.

A deep anguish in his throat
An anger like an eyebrow furrows
All animals from trees to moat
Must find a place to burrow

His textures are uneven
Perhaps his name is Steven
We surely can’t beat this foe 
But have we ever actually tried 
Just saying hello?
