            Northern 150119 departs Grindleford station and is about to plunge into the 6230 yard gloom of Totley Tunnel working 2S84, 11:49 Manchester Piccadilly - Sheffield, 16th July 2019. 

Unit History
150119 is one of the first production batch (fifty two car units) of “second generation” Diesel Multiple Units built as replacements for the original Diesel Multiple Units introduced in the late 1950’s. I still consider these to be modern vehicles but they are now well over thirty years old as they were built at York works in 1985. When built 150119 was used on East Midlands duties based at Etches Park, Derby until the introduction of the class 156 units on East Midlands duties in 1988 when the class 150/1 units migrated Tyseley for Birmingham suburban duties. Whilst at Tyseley the unit was made up to a three car set with the incorporation of 57220 from disbanded class 150/2 set 150220 to become 150019. With introduction of the class 172 fleet in 2012 these hybrid three car sets were generally disbanded and 150119 was reformed and transferred to Newton Heath.
