Peasholm_Park_2106_Scarborough - a photo on Flickriver

            A view of the bandstand and part of the lake at Peasholm Park, Scarborough, 2nd June 2021. Work began on the construction of the island and lake in December 1911 and Peasholm Park was opened was 19th June 1912. Mr Harry. W. Smith, the Borough Engineer set out the new gardens in a Japanese style and the Oriental style remains 100 years later. The park was expanded between 1924 and 1932 and remained a major attraction for the next sixty years. However by the end of the 20th century it was suffering from neglect and vandalism but a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled the Borough Council to rebuild/refurbish the park back to its original glory.
