47055_1976_10_Llanelli

            47055 stabled in the yard at Llanelli, 16th October 1976.

Note the poor photography skills demonstrated here with my photo equipment bag in the foreground. I could have hidden my error by cloning it out in photoshop but decided to leave it in as a reminder of my lack of skill in those early days.

Locomotive History
It was delivered new from Crewe works in December 1964 as D1639, allocated to Cardiff Canton MPD. Renumbered 47055 in May 1974 it was fitted with electric train heating and renumbered 47652 in April 1986. Fitted with extended long-range fuel tanks and renumbered 47807 in July 1989 and carried the name The Lion of Vienna between April 1998 and July 2002. It was rebuilt in 2002 with a new engine and alternator, becoming 57304 and is currently operated by Virgin Trains.
