Préparatifs

            C’est jour de fête à Lamayuru, important  monastère du bouddhisme tibétain de la région du Ladakh, à l’extrême nord de l’Inde, dans la chaîne de l’Himalaya. Toute la population, très pieuse, s’est donnée rendez-vous dans l’enceinte de l’établissement où auront lieu chants et danses religieux. Mais pour l’heure, ces femmes en costume traditionnel se préparent  à accueillir les plus hautes autorités religieuses qui présideront la cérémonie et qui jouissent d’un très profond respect. Certaines portent une khata,  écharpe de prière traditionnellement en soie blanche, symbolisant le cœur pur du donateur, qu'elles offriront aux religieux à leur descente de voiture, les autres au centre de la photo, tiennent à la main la mâlâ, chapelet aux 108 grains. 

It is a feast day in Lamayuru, an important Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the Ladakh region, in the far north of India, in the Himalayan range. The whole population, very pious, met in the grounds of the establishment where religious songs and dances will take place. But for now, these women in traditional dress are preparing to welcome the highest religious authorities who will preside over the ceremony and who enjoy deep respect. Some wear a khata, a prayer scarf traditionally in white silk, symbolizing the pure heart of the donor, which they will offer to the religious when they get out of the car, the others in the center of the photo, hold in their hands the mâlâ, rosary with 108 grains.
