            A rather scruffy 50036 Victorious waits to depart Exeter St Davids with a northbound express formed of Mark I coaching stock, 5th June 1982. The large logo paint work has not worn well to say it is only a year old.

Locomotive History
50036 was originally D436 and was built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry works, entering traffic, allocated to Crewe in August 1968 on Crewe – Glasgow West Coast Main Line duties. With the completion of the West Coast Main Line electrification to Glasgow in 1974 thirty five class 50’s were transferred to the Western Region, however 50036 was one of the fifteen locomotives retained by the London Midland Region until finally transferred to the Western Region (Bristol Bath Road) in May 1976. In 1978 it was decided to name the class after Royal Navy warships and on the 16th May 1978 50036 was named Victorious (HMS Victorious, Fleet Aircraft Carrier launched 1939). 50036 was refurbished at Doncaster works during the early months of 1981 and re-entered traffic in June 1981. It survived in traffic until withdrawn in April 1991 and was broken up at CF Booth, Rotherham during July 1992.
