New species #36B: The return of The Yellow-throated Toucan

            
For the second straight day, we were made aware of the toucan’s arrival by its very loud squawking outside our hotel’s door. Hoping to capture better photos than the day before had me grabbing my camera, I went out into the morning’s humidity, knowing that the cold of the airconditioned room would surely fog up my lens…and it did, horribly!

As I stood under the Peach Palm tree and watched it feed, I just knew that it would take flight before I was ready. I would wipe my lens, and watch it fog, blow on it to warm it and wipe again and again...only to watch it fog again. I remember growling out loud in frustration! As true blessings often go, the toucan was hungry and not overly concerned with our presence, so I was able to capture this, and many other shots.

I love it when the purpose of God’s design is made clear, as it was taking that large bill and meticulously moving the heavy fruit laden branches from side to side so it could select the desired piece based on ripeness.

We said goodbye to him and left him to his breakfast, as we went for ours.
