5th Anniversary - Lost In Me - a photo on Flickriver

This day holds 2 very special occasions. And this post is to celebrate the more important occasion out of the pair. But they're kinda tied together. So I have to mention the other one in this one to show the kind of man I married.

6 years ago, on my rez day, my previous fiance had proposed to me to make the day 'special'. It was, ultimately, just a gimmick for attention done by him to show the world how 'happy and in love we were'. It was a really... really bad relationship. By July of that year, I was done and left, closed the door on that noise. Cormack had been my bestie for 14 years at that point and he gave me a safe place to move to; a place to heal and recover from the damage done by my two previous exes.

Heh... cue December 13th, the day before his birthday, and he proposes to me in SL... He knows I won't ever get married again in RL, refuse to do it. Not that I'm against marriage, mind you, but after the problems I've been through, I don't want to deal with all those legalities anymore. But in SL? Well... how could I say no? I couldn't. When we discussed the wedding date, we were originally gonna plan it for February 28th, which is a super big day for us because that's also the anniversary of when we met in 2002. He started talking about my rez day and wanting to make it special beforehand and I... I said no. I said I couldn't. I said my rez day was such a bad reminder for me and I could never enjoy it again.

So, what did he do? He took my hands and he said, "So, let's make it special again. Forget the 28th for this. Let's show that asshole that he can't ruin you or anything you have. We know he's watching your Facebook. He already knows we've moved in together, we have our own place together, we've started dating... so let's make it burn. Let's have the happiest day for both of us and make your rez day something to be remembered always." (This is the paraphrased version... If you know Cormack, he is the KING of long-winded speeches, it's actually impressive.) His entire speech was enough to convince me to say yes.

This man has taken so many bad memories and replaced them with better memories. We have been through some shit. We have put each other through some shit. But we always manage to get through it and bounce back even stronger than before. We're going through stormy and turbulent times right now... but the ONE thing that is constant in my life is him. He is my rock. Every year, I mark this day with a picture that wonderfully represents the stage we are at in our lives. This year, my picture is this, and it's inspired by a song, naturally. Because... I remember having a similar conversation with him that's spoken at the beginning of the song. I had to know... I had to know if existing got any easier after being hurt so deeply as I had been by two people I had loved beyond measure. And then the song itself just... Read it, listen... Feel it with your heart and maybe you'll understand the depth of our bond...
