The stripe-breasted starthroat (Heliomaster squamosus) is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family.
It is found only in regions of eastern and southeastern Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and heavily degraded former forest.

Também conhecido como estrela-verde-azulado, o bico-reto-de-banda-branca (Heliomaster squamosus) é um beija-flor da família Trochilidae.
Seu nome científico significa:: do (grego) hëlios = sol; e mastër, maiomai = buscador; para buscar depois; e do (latim) squama, squamosus = escama, escamado. ⇒ (Ave) escamada que busca o Sol.

Características:
Mede cerca de 12,5 centímetros de comprimento. Nesta espécie a fêmea difere do macho principalmente por apresentar a garganta e o peito escamados, isto é, apenas com a parte central verde e o restante cinza-claro. Ao contrário da maioria das outras espécies, (Heliomaster squamosus) e (Heliomaster furcifer) apresentam 2 mudas de plumagem por ano. Após a muda pós-nupcial adquirem uma plumagem de descanso. O macho adulto perde a plumagem vermelho-violeta iridescente da garganta e do peito e torna-se semelhante à fêmea e aos jovens da sua espécie.
São raras as espécies residentes no Brasil que apresentam esse padrão, como alguns caboclinhos (Sporophila bouvreuil, S. ruficollis, S. melanogaster), o tiziu (Volatinia jacarina) e os beija-flores (Heliomaster squamosus) e (Heliomaster furcifer) (Mallet-Rodrigues, 2000).
Subespécies:
Espécie monotípica (não são reconhecidas subespécies).

Alimentação:
Alimenta-se principalmente do néctar das flores.

Reprodução:
O ninho desta espécie é uma pequena tigela, construída com painas e musgos e revestida com teia de aranhas e líquens, apoiada num galho ou forquilha de árvore. Os ovos medem 15 por 9 milímetros.

Hábitos:
Habita florestas, campos e cerrados.

Distribuição Geográfica:
Endêmico do Brasil, encontrado nas regiões Centro Oeste, Sudeste, Nordeste e Norte do Paraná.
